Release-related

Q: What’s your release schedule?
A: We do not have one. We release whenever we like, whatever we like. But, we try to fix at least a release every two months if possible. It depends on the work, the manpower we have and life in general. But otherwise, no we don’t have fixed release dates.

Q: Do you take in BL manga/doujinshi suggestions?
A: Unfortunately, we aren’t able to immediately agree but we’d love to hear suggestions and get introduced to more BL works! If you’d like to suggest, simply drop us an email, or leave your suggestions at the Suggestion section. Since our group does not have a scanner, it would be wonderful if you can also provide the scans, or provide a link to where we can obtain permission from the scanner.

Q: Are you guys 100% BL-only?
A: For now, yes we’re working only on BL. We might, in the future, expand but it depends!

Q: Can I join your team?
A: Please check the Hiring page!

Q: I’m from another group and I’d like to re-translate your works!
A: Sure, but please note:

  1. Credit us as the translation source, and link back to our site.
  2. Find your own raws, do not use our scanlated products and edit over them.
  3. If it’s a JOINT project, please also ask the other group, or check their FAQs.

Most of these raws are not even ours, and for every project, we obtain permission from the scanner to scanlate them, so please do the same!

Q: What are your sharing/distributing policies?
A: We don’t have any restrictive ones. The most important ones are…

  1. Do not claim our scanlations as your own work.
  2. Do not alter the contents of our file. Don’t remove the credit pages in the file, you’re being extremely rude.
  3. Do not distribute our scanlations for your own monetary benefits. That’s just being despicable.
  4. Once the work becomes licensed, REMOVE DOWNLOADS FROM YOUR SITE IMMEDIATELY. (For manga.)

It’s not a must, but it would also be great if you could link back to our site!

Q: Can I donate money to help you get more projects?
A: Right now, we haven’t set up anything that requires us dealing with money so we can get raws or a host, so no. As for the future, we may consider doing it, but it depends on where we go from here. :’)

Q: Shall we have a joint project? ;D
A: Please use the Contact section to contact us, or drop us an email!

Q: Let’s affiliate~
A: Sure! If you’re another BL scan group, we’d definitely be more than happy to!

Q: Oh, there’s already another group working on this doujinshi/manga!
A: Thanks for the info, especially those that we have not actually started work on (check the “progress” bit for every project). However, if it is a group that’s ‘closed’, like on LJ where they are not keen on accepting new members, or if they do not reveal their projects to the rest of the internet, then that’s not counted and we will still work on it anyway.

Site-related

Q: So, the “About This Site” page…
A: Yes, most of it is just a joke. We came up with the name Rotten Scanlations after a long, long discussion. We initially had ideas like “KusoHetare” (“Goddamn Useless”) or “HetareSugiru” (“Way Too Useless”) but majority won for Rotten Scanlations. So we just settled for “Rotten Scans”. As you can see, we don’t take ourselves very seriously…

Q: How do I navigate around this site, or get updates? It’s kind of confusing…
A: There are 2 ways:

  1. Search bar on the right sidebar.
  2. Look at right sidebar for the navigation dropdown menu.

To get updates:

  1. Click the “I want the homos!” button on the right sidebar to get updates.
  2. RSS button is located at the top of the page.

Q: Will you have any releases that are locked?
A: No, all our releases are open, and we won’t have password-protected posts. The point is that we want to share the BL love with people!

Q: Do you have an online reader?
A: Nope, unfortunately we do not have the funds to get our own online reader, so there are only downloads. We do not encourage readers to upload our works onto online readers because you are indirectly paying them for works they didn’t do. However, we know we can’t stop people from doing it so we won’t try. :’)

Q: What is the forum for?
A: The forum is for all our readers and other BL/anime/manga fans to hang out together and create a small community so everyone can have fun chatting, and sharing other scanlations/raws as well. We also periodically add updates to new projects or any minor announcements too.

Q: Why are there sometimes random posts (posts that contain no releases) that get posted here?
A: We are a scanlation team, but sometimes there might be interesting things that we want to share with you guys, and to also prove that we’re not dead if we haven’t released in awhile.
